Prepaid metering for African mini-grids

Meter selection starts with how your mini-grid operates. Match the customer connection, tariff and recharge workflow to the available power and communications infrastructure. AFMETER helps developers and EPC teams structure a metering supply enquiry.

Design around the connection

  • Separate single-phase households from three-phase productive-use loads.
  • Define service current, load limiting, disconnection and reconnection behaviour.
  • Specify integrated or split customer interfaces and installation enclosures.

Plan vending and integration together

A prepaid meter, vending platform and payment channel form one operating workflow. Confirm token generation, key ownership, offline recharge, reconciliation and exception handling. Mobile money or API integration requires a named platform and an agreed interface; it is not automatic.

Donor-funded and World Bank-financed projects

For World Bank-financed mini-grid procurements, work from the specific implementing agency’s bidding documents and clarifications. Supply eligibility, technical criteria, qualification documents and acceptance requirements vary by package. AFMETER is an independent supplier brand; this page does not imply World Bank endorsement or a project award.

Include these inputs in your RFQ

  • Country, site count, connection count and rollout phases.
  • Voltage/frequency, maximum load and installation drawings.
  • Vending provider, communications coverage and payment workflow.
  • Tender clauses, required test evidence, sample plan and delivery destination.
